Performative reading of Antoni Chekhov's debut drama "Platonov" will bring a summary to an educational and artistic experiment examining the possibilities of interdisciplinary education for the students of art schools in Lodz, launched in January 2020.

Students of the Film School, the Academy of Arts, the Academy of Music and the University of Lodz shared knowledge and experience, while consulting their ideas with experienced educators and artists. When considering issues related to the interpretation of Chekhov's plays, they learned about the broad cultural context in which the works of the classic of world literature originated and function. Taking advantage of the involvement of educators - artists, the participants gained professional knowledge in the field of dramatic and theatrical art, visual arts and music, as well as theatre production.

The perfomative reading of "Platonov" will be focused around the topic of the generational experience, which is: lack of reference points in traditions and systems of values that can support moral and life choices. Such an interpretation of the drama allowed for answering the questions about their spiritual condition in the context of the drama. Thus, working on an in-depth interpretation of "Platonov" becomes vehicle that allows them to broaden self-observation and deepen their self-awareness at the existential and professional level.

Stage design students, under the supervision of Izabela Stronias, PhD, who runs the Theater and Film Costume Studio at the Academy of Arts, will be responsible for the stage and costume design.

Students of the Academy of Music, under the supervision of Leszek Kołodziejski, PhD, will prepare the musical setting and perform selected pieces.

Perfomative reading will take place on the stage of Teatr Nowy. The entire space will be arranged as a Chekhov's living room, where the characters of the drama meet. The audience will be asked to sit in different parts of the stage, thus becoming an active participant and getting a chance to go deeper into Chekhov's world.

The whole process of students' work and performance will be recorded and made available via Internet and Social Media.
